“If you always do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get the same results”, it is a familiar quote and one that rings true every time you hear it. There are also buzz phrases such as “think outside the box”, and this could mean simply taking on board and trying things out from someone else’s perspective. We often think that implementation has to be rooted in the way out or radical, but it could be the simplest solution with the least disruption that could be bang on the money.
Taking from this, is the idea that innovation is in everyone, there is always thinking that could drive change. To get to this, as leaders, we need to listen and hear those around us, those that are experiencing the reality, day to day. It is key to ask the right questions because they may take for granted what the solution is, but it is so obvious to them that they might assume we had already thought the same. Working together with effective communication, drawing things out, talking, listening, trialling...Whatever you are working on, use a holistic approach to gaining the knowledge and expertise from those around us to provide the best outcomes possible. Think differently, do differently and who knows where that might take you, but one guarantee is that you will have learnt something new about the work your doing, the environment, your colleagues; the list is endless, but most of all, you gain more insight into yourself, try it… JC
